A microchip and a vaccination certificate will get your cat European citizenship. In the summer of 2020 CE Moni arrived to Schiphol airport. She was there with me, a non-European with no offerings except my love and a comfortable couch. After a quick stop at the customs, she became a Kittyzen of the European Union. Kittyzens of the World is a video installation starring Moni, Chip no. 95301000387, a feral cat born in Jerusalem. The work is a visual reflection/meandering on the state of migration, alongside the construction of historical narratives in our world. It questions who is a desired European citizen? Through this work, Tal traces the story of migration in three chapters: Air, Sea, and Foot. The narration captures the different ways of becoming a Kittyzen, bringing together a variety of locations and times.
